Day 17. Farewell. - Sunday, 4/12/2005

Today, I woke up bright and early (that's around 11am in Schoolies time). I was on a mission: To find out what happened to Rufus.
I sneaked downstairs and looked around. Right there in the kitchen, in plain sight (on display even), I found my very first clue:

Rufus!

And there, sitting beside him, there was another little clue:

His kidnapper - Bernadette.

Bernadette is yet another stuffed creature who I failed to mention in my list of suspects, she was that crafty that I forgot she existed. She is owned by Tim M.
And how do I know that Bernadette was the kidnapper? How did I crack the case? Rigorous detective work (by me) revealed a vital clue that the untrained eye may not immediately recognise as significant:

A signed confession note.
I discovered it right in front of Bernadette. It read:

I, bernadette, confess that I
kidnapped rufus.
But in the process I fell madly in
love with Roofy. Unfortuna-
tely he will not be returnd
as we are seeking a better life in Spain.

Bernadette

Later on in the day, Rufus was sitting by himself with a different note in front of him. It read:

Damien,
I'm coming home because I miss you
too much! Bernadette was just too
controlling. And Spain Stunk.
So here I am, please don't be angry!

Rufus
♥'s

Well, Detective Me has solved yet another case, although there are a number of things that still don't add up. Such as the number of people. First we have the two Partners in Crime who kidnapped Rufus in the first place, then we have another separate two Hooligans who spontaneously decided to stage his death (boy that must have really busted the plans of the partners in crime to set up a decent treasure hunt!). But the cherry on the top, the one that really shocked everyone, were the mysterious kidnapper(/s) of whom I know not the number nor the name(/s), who kidnapped Rufus from the original Partners in Crime, and took him out of his box in the basket, in which he was gagged and waiting to be rescued. They really succeeded in getting the better of everyone. How did they know he was there? Surely they didn't realise there was a four letter mistake in the 'final' clue before I did, did they? Perhaps they saw the Partners in Crime Hiding Rufus in the basket, and sneaked him out straight after? No, this case is not closed. I guess we will never know the truth.
And so the great mind of me is not disposed to discover the identity of the Hooligan and other Culprit who did this to Tim M's bed, which we affectionately called his "cot":

Tim's cot hanging from the ceiling.

It was hanging straight over my bed! A clear threat of doom and destruction to me. The order is wrong, but the message is so obvious, I need not interpret it: "████████████████████████████████████████████████████"

It was a very sad day. We all went to the park for lunch before signing each other's yellow shirts and going home one by one. I could drag out the details, but it's too painful. Until next year, Schoolies is over. Goodbye Rufus. Goodbye Schoolies. Goodbye Coolies.

I love you.

Farewell.
